Starbucks, an international coffee house chain has everything to boast about from aromatic coffee to cooling frappes and some delicious snacks. And now, they are offering something more – free Wi-Fi on all their branches.
Starbucks joins a list of food stores like McDonald’s which offers free Wi-Fi. Both McDonald’s and Starbucks have paired with AT&T, the latter often criticized for their not-so-good wireless quality, is the number one wireless provider in the United States.
Starbucks is one of the initiators of providing wireless technology to its customers starting off with a deal together with T-Mobile and then with AT&T. In the past, customers can only use the Wi-Fi free service for 2 hours provided they have an AT&T or Starbucks Card login key.
But this time, they can do away with all that.

Starbucks is also preparing itself to roll out a project called Starbucks Digital Network which they hope to attain with Yahoo as primary partner slated to find full bloom this fall. The said project will offer its customers ultimate experience online with free and without-limitation-access to paid sites and services which includes Wall Street Journal site, home to news information, and content providers like iTunes and others. Thus, customers can use gadgets like phones, laptops and tablets to get to new sites. However, the said project will only be wide-spread in the United States.
These steps are taken to provide better online experience and bring the branded Starbucks experience online. The first pertains to an easy one-click logon while the second part is allowing quality content that is usually on a pay wall to customers like business news, lifestyle, music, entertainment, and other contents to be accessed for free.
This project will both benefit premium service providers and Starbucks. The former by providing free content will gaining new potential customers while Starbucks will allow their customers to enjoy more time in their stores. More service providers will be announced as their launch date comes around.
I think this is an amazing move by Starbucks who not only continue to improve their products but also improve their services. Bringing the Starbucks experience online is really a wise move that everyone will be waiting for. In the modern genre of new technologies offered, Starbucks is making sure that they are not left behind. Way to go Starbucks!
