Now, they dared to introduce a multimedia laptop with a cheap price tag. Possible? Yes! Check the Gateway NV5933u multimedia laptop.
Most multimedia laptops come with a hefty price tag and only a few have blu-ray disk compatibility. Not NV5933u. With just $629.99 (not including shipping costs), you can have a decent multimedia laptop that has a double-layer with blue-ray support ROM drive. You can now enjoy watching your favorite blu-ray disk films at the comfort of your office or computer desk!
The Gateway NV5933u multimedia laptop comes in 2 different colors: midnight blue and cherry red. It comes with a plastic body with glossy and sleek outer shell but unfortunately could be prone to finger print smudges. And even with a plastic chassis, we can’t understand why this notebook still weighs 5.8lbs! Sorry to all skinny ladies and guys, this laptop isn’t for you unless you carry it with a backpack or a trolley.
At a closer look, the NV5933u possesses a 2.13GHz Intel Core i3-330M processor with 3MB L2 Cache, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 128 MB (dedicated) Integrated GMA HD graphic card, 320 GB SATA HDD, 15.6 in (1366 x 768) with bright display and performs well while running HD movies. It has a blu-ray disk support and will be powered by Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Other features include wireless capability with b/g/n support and built-in webcam that streams and capture images well. The performance of this laptop is quite good especially with playing HD movies. The core i3 processor could have been upgraded to i5 but we doubt if the price would stay to less than 700 if that happens. We thought that the trackpad/touchpad’s position is quite awkward as well as it’s navigation usage. Most users complain that the touchpad jump uncontrollably at times and therefore, a mouse could be a better alternative.
We felt that the added number pad only serve as a “filler” for the keypad and is not really necessary. The power button also has an awkward position (placed at the hinges) and you could get lost the first time you use it. We also recommend that you remove some “pre-installed” programs and replace it since it may contribute to slow startup of the machine.
All in all, the Gateway NV5933u is a good alternative for laptop fans who are seeking for cheap multimedia notebooks. It’s an all around notebook and great for watching HD movies, although we believe it is far from being considered the “best”.
