We all have our half-full/half-empty experiences regarding geocities. To a geek, they treat this place as the holy-grail of hosting when companies like godaddy and namecheap are not yet existing. To a nerd, this place is their haven when their nerd-mates are challenging them to send a HTML website from scratch.
I for one, also have bitter-sweet memoirs with geocities way back when my self-proclaimed html geek teacher ditched my newbie html-page all done in notepad.
I guess the majority of web-publishers has a lot of inspiring stories to share on how they started in geocities. The motto at that time is
“A damn-simple html pages is not so bad!”
Now, Yahoo is marking the end of geocities for real now.
A couple of months ago yahoo-users received an email entitled, “Geocities is closing” and it ask users to back-up their website from geocities because the service will be shutdown for good. Some thought it was a joke, few didn’t care though the rest are surprised and they all have one question in their mind.
“Why?”
Well, whatever reason their CEO (Carol Bartz) has stored. I’m sure queries of people will not be satisfied. If you want to see All the sarcastic things Yahoo has been focusing this year, feel free to check this link.

I guess we will just keep geocities in our memories then. Kudus to all web-publishers who used G.C!
