Google Buzz: New Era of Social Networking? | Video Review

Posted on 13 February 2010 by pinoytutorial

If you prefer Google mail or shall I say Gmail then you may find Google Buzz a nifty tool to use to get more out of Google’s services. I have Gmail and basically if you allow Buzz to be activated in your Gmail account nothing really special will happen.

No transformation of any sort only a small icon saying Buzz that you will see just below your Inbox option at the left upper right corner of you email view. It will also connect you to sites like Picasa, Google Reader, Flickr and Twitter.

So whate ver you post on the said sites will also appear on your Google Buzz account. Okay let me just clarify that this is not something that needs setting up, that means once you activate the ‘BUZZ’ icon will already be present in your Gmail but if you want it to be synchronized to you other social networking site then you would have to set your profile up.

Google didn’t spend money trying to build up a new social networking site which makes sense to me because there are a lot of social networking sites now and to make a new one will be really risky. It’s a dog eat dog world out there when it comes to social networking sites nowadays at the same time sites like Twitter, Flickr and Facebook has made a remarkable success and earned loyal fans so how would a new social net site beat that?

This is a safe move from Google and though other say it‘s old school, I say it’s pretty helpful to have this Buzz tool handy in your Gmail. So if you’re busy doing all your email stuff but you want to visit your Twitter account because your itching to post your tweet you can skip that and just post it on your Buzz and it will automatically post on Twitter. Now that is neat right?

This time your boss will never get to see you slacking off at work because you’re on your social net site account since you can still stay connected with the latest about your friends and who ever matters to you via Google Buzz! I hues Google has been thinking of “If you can’t beat them, Join Them” kind of theme when they made Buzz. Oh and this can be on your mobile too. Just watch the videos to find out more!

It doesn’t work that way with Twitter. If you post on Twitter then it’ll show in Google Buzz, but not the other way around.
If you want to Tweet from Gmail then you can add a Twitter widget

All that I can suggest is that if you are a small business who is worried about exposing your contact data to potential rivals or competitors then you should not use it.

I can’t really say anything else. The choice is yours really. All businesses are different and some of them could be doing themselves a real disservice to allow their service staff or sales team publish thier list of contacts. Especially in niche markets where competition is high.

I realize they have since made some changes, I have opted out since then, you should however be aware of any potential threats this could serve you. Not everybodies life is all lollipops and candy apples.

I think buzz is very lame. I disabled it. I don’t need to share on google. I’m sharing elsewhere.

Sensible comments/suggestions are always appreciated.
