Google, one of the most popular search engines seem to be taking a new direction as they have made a very important announcement just recently. Google’s co-founder Larry Page will now take the place of Eric Schmidt as the company’s CEO effective April 4, 2011. Apparently, this important decision was made in order to simplify the company’s management structure and speed up the decision making process within the company. If you can still remember Larry Page served as Google’s first CEO way back 1998 up to 2001. And after 10 years he will be returning as the company’s CEO and take over its day to day operations.

Eric Schmidt on the other hand, will assume the position of Executive Chairman of Google. As Google’s Executive Chairman, he will be focusing on the external deals of the company and on the building of partnerships, customer relations and broader business relationships. In addition to this, he will also continue to act as the internal adviser of Google’s new CEO Larry Page and the company’s other co-founders as well. So Google will not really be missing Eric Schmidt after all, he will just take the back seat for now.
Eric Schmidt has clearly made an outstanding job for the last ten decades that he leads the company as its CEO. And now that Larry Page is Google’s new CEO, we can expect new and exciting things happening within Google. Page is very vocal about his admiration for what Schmidt has done with Google and his leadership style. He also stated that Schmidt’s advice and efforts will be greatly appreciated as he starts his new role of being the company’s new CEO.
In addition to this, Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin will also step down as the company’s president of technology and will simply be assuming the title of co-founder. As you can see Google seems to be preparing for something big as it takes significant steps as far as its management structure is concerned. So what do these changes mean for Google? Well, it only means that important decisions about the company will now be handled by Larry Page himself.
Now that the company has a new CEO in the person of Larry Page, it would be exciting to know what major changes will be happening to Google in the years to come. So let us just wait and see what these changes will be.
