If you haven’t heard of Box.net you will now! Box.net is a web base content storage that allows you to seamlessly store your files so anybody that you allow to see it or access it can do so. That means business, projects or personal documents can be done anywhere as long as you have access to the net!
Bright Idea huh? Now you don’t have to worry about forgetting your flash drive, microSD or memory card every time you have to leave the house and office because your files simply goes with you wherever you are with just a click of your browser. You can check Box.net’s website.
Now let’s go to the highlight of our talk. Google has released a somewhat identical version of Box.net -Google Docs & Spreadsheets, but the question is, would it really have the balls to compete with box?
Is it really trying to battle against the first site to launch the “save your files in the cloud”? Or this is just a simple way of Google to expand their horizon? Whatever the reason maybe for Google to launch their own version of Box.net it all boils down to; More People would be using (or shall I say prefer them as a web browser) Google’s browser and email account that’s for sure.
So what can Google Docs offer? It will provide users with a 1GB storage memory if you need more then it will only cost you 25 cents per Gigabyte. This is a storage device online that will help you save files, documents, videos and a lot more. Plus it can make downloads a breeze since it’s made to accommodate a big chunk of file, let’s say 250MB.
So far not all features are available yet, such as synchronization with different or other websites. It still has a few flaws when it comes to copy pasting from Google docs to other documents and to another website (these applies to Google spreadsheet and doc). Users has reported that there’s still a lot of work to be done to improve Google docs, it may offer convenience for storage but it doesn’t give too much ease when it comes to a whole new different task.
Honestly I would say that Google docs can’t compete yet with other websites that offers the same service (such as Box.net), flaws from their service has to be eliminated to be in comparison with the like.
