There were some ongoing rumors that Google is in the process of preparing for the launch of its online bookstore called the Google Editions Book Store in spite of the fact that it is still undergoing some settlement issues with certain book copyright owner through the court. Apparently, this settlement will give Google the right to offer some out-of-print books for sale. But while waiting for the approval of New York court, Google is already rumored to preparing a storefront that will certainly match the offerings of its competitors such as Amazon, Borders and Apple.
In order to withstand the ongoing competition, Google will be focusing on the Web browser, which is in contrast to the dedicated reading software being offered by the other booksellers. This feature will enable the e-books to be read on more devices in the future. However, this will not provide the same experience that dedicated readers may be able to provide. In addition to this, Google will also allow its wares to be offered at some websites of independent bookstores in exchange for a certain cut in the proceeds.
The company will initially offer some books that are simply similar to what other retailers are currently offering which will basically consist of books currently printed and old enough to be out of copyright. This may not get the interest of those buyers who have become a fan of e-books already, but the key thing here is if Google will be able to have its settlement for the out-of-print books approved, then they will be able to offer a broader range of books than its competitors.
Google hopes to launch this new online bookstore by summer and has also cleared some technical and legal problems as well. There are also some publishers as well that were already exchanging files with Google. This just gives a clear indication that the launch of this online bookstore is happening very soon.
If the Google Editions will push through users will be able to buy certain books directly from Google or from other online retailers as well and add them to an online library that is tied to a Google account. This will give them access to their Google accounts in almost any device with a web browser.
With the Google Editions, Google seems to be carrying out a mission to reach almost all Internet users not just those people with tablets, but others as well.
