One of the more innovative improvements to the map is of course Google Maps and Turn By Turn Navigation devices. Since most people already rely so much on both these services, Google has seen to it to at least upgrade their services and bring it forward another step into the future. Here is the news about Google Map 5.0 for Android.

With the release of Google Map 5.0, Google has provided Android smartphone users with a new way to view the map; in 3D! (and I know that you read that using a big voice). Here’s a video of the service:
Google is using Vector Graphics which makes the maps more versatile and scalable compared to the stitched version of the current Google Maps. Users can then “tilt” the whole map image using two fingers for that 3D view of the landscape, without the flashier details of Google Earth. The rendered buildings are reminiscent of Sandbox games.
Another feature that the 5.0 version brings is the ability of the maps to be cached offline especially for the most frequently visited location, Navigated Routes, and Potential Reroutes. For the simpler Google Maps 5.0 without the 3D capability, users of Android 1.6 and higher can download it for free while Android 2.0 users will be able to use the 3D version.
