In its continuing ideology for research and development announces its latest in technology for 2011. It’s called the Google TV. It’s designed to give you the ultimate experience where it brings the Web to your TV and your TV to the Web. It is also destined to be compatible with different programs or platforms that would make easier access to your internet surfing experience.
In this line Sony plans to build BRAVIA Internet TVs and Blu-ray players; Logitech is building a “companion box” that can control your entire A/V rack using Harmony technology; Dish Network has the beta test partner; Adobe’s building Flash 10.1; Intel’s making the Atom CE4100 chip that’s used in all these and Best Buy has partnered to sell Google TV devices in its stores.
So there’s no doubt that the Google TV will be a market sensation. Google TV runs on a platform based on Android. Android is an operating system and software stack for mobile devices that uses a modified version of the Linux kernel developed by Android Inc., a firm later purchased by Google, and lately by the Open Handset Alliance. It allows one to write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google Java libraries.
But Google TV, instead of the Android browser, runs Google’s Chrome browser as well as a full version of Flash Player 10.1 which can browse almost any site on the web and play video provided it is not blocked.
The advantages include: Channels can be both pre-set or of your own making; you can choose channel without cable-operator and create and Elmo-centric episode of Sesame Street where only the character you choose can appear on screen; you can set your DVR to record right from the menu; the search box is simple to use; a click to call ad where you can get directions and maps; allows local music from streaming; sync your local music to an Android devices; fast album downloading; send troubleshooting information an application error reports with complete back end data; update all icon for your apps; has a voice-activated translation application; can easily switch from the web browser to the Android phone properties; and has the fastest mobile browser named froyo with the fastest and latest features.
On the other hand, the disadvantages are: signal can be interrupted by Bluetooth – you need to turn-off all Bluetooth devices; some applications that run perfectly on Google may be used except for their ugly scale caused by a larger screen size; the minute you’ve chosen between the browser web and the television, you’ll lose every detail searched and Android application is better when managing application.
The Google TV is the latest in technology and has the features that not all televisions and web browsers have. Truly, it’s both a TV and a web application put in one. It can be deemed that there are disadvantages in the platform, however, the advantages weigh more. It’s definitely a new viewing experience!
