Inside the world of storage devices, it isn’t enough to make the highest capacity only. One should also consider where you will put it; and chances are if it isn’t sexy enough, there will be a new comer who will sweep you on your feet. That’s the same instance for Hitachi as it keeps on innovating its fleet of storage devices in terms of efficiency and practicality of design.

As of today, the company is revealing its slimmest 500GB under a 2.5 inch external HD touted to be the thinnest of its class on the world. The new Travelstar ZK500 drive will be featuring one-disk, 7mm thin HDD with Hitachi’s G-technology / G-drive design to make it perform under rugged conditions as well. It will be running under 5400 RPM whereas it wil be available on 320GB and 250GB capacity as well. In addition to that, this device was also compared to an SSD were the company claims it’s at par in terms of RPMs and ergonomic design. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the company reveals a very thin type of hard-drive, its Travelstar Z7K320 launched last month proves that the Japanese-based company is serious on manufacturing these type of hard drives.

Expect Hitachi to roll out these types of 7 millimeter hard-disks on CES next year whereas the price is still yet to be revealed.
