Google is one of the most popular search engines nowadays and just recently it has announced the launch of the Google Instant. The Google Instant will allow you to view web pages and search results faster than ever. With the Google Instant, as soon as you type a URL in the omnibox, the webpage you are searching will begin loading even before you will be able to hit the enter button. In addition to that, search results appear instantly as you type your queries in the omnibox and there are also in-line predictions that help guide your search as well.

The Google Instant search may be very useful only for frequently visited web pages, but the feature doesn’t work well if you want to type a new web address or a query. An example of this is if you frequently type Gmail’s address and wanted to go http://mail.yahoo.com, Chrome will be loading the Gmail website first before loading the Yahoo mail.

Well, it seems that the Google Instant in Chrome is more useful than it is on Google. At present, this feature is only available for Windows but a computer whiz found a way to enable it for Mac PCs.

To enable this feature on Mac, simply follow these simple steps (then check related video courtesy of Lifehacker):

1. Open Chrome and proceed to the about: labs and enable at least one feature.
2. Restart Chrome to apply the settings, and then quit Chrome afterwards.
3. With your favorite text editor open the Google Chrome Application support and look for the section that says: “enabled_labs_experiments”: ["tabbed-options"] and change it to “enabled_labs_experiments”: [ "match-preview", "tabbed-opt]
4. Save the file and re-open Chrome and BAM and that’s it…Google Instant is now enabled.

For Windows users, follow these simple steps:

1. Download and install Google Chrome dev channel. If you have already pin the Chrome before make sure that you unpin it first before proceeding with the next step.
2. Go to “Start -> All Programs -> Google Chrome“, then right click Google Chrome and select Properties
3. Enter the “–enable-match-preview” at the end of the shortcut target, then click OK
4. From the start menu, launch the Google Chrome . At this point the real time search preview page should appear once you start typing at the omnibar and that’s it Google Instant is now enabled.

Here’s a video clip showing Google Instant in action:

The Google Instant seems to be a great feature that will definitely make your search faster and easier and now that it is also enabled in the Google Chrome surely more users will benefit from the said feature.
