The netbook business is a category that only a few manufacturers are getting involved with and HP manufacturers seem to be preparing an upgrade from HP Mini 5102 to 5103. HP apparently brought out this information quietly through an Italian website. It turned out that the website NetbookNews was the one which revealed the specs of the HP Mini 5103 on HP Italy.
To give a brief summary about the 5102, basically this HP Mini 5102 exceeds its $600 price point which is mainly attributed to a series of updates made with it which includes a 7200 RPM HDD that comes with a magnesium alloy case and accelerometer. You also have the opportunity to include a Broadcom HD video accelerator, optional touchscreen display, a choice between a solid state disk and a hard disk and variety of operating systems such as SUSE Linux, Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Premium.
The initial specs as well as the photos of the chassis of the HP Mini 5103 almost look the same as the 5102 but the biggest change included in this unit is having a choice between an Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz or 1.86 GHz Intel Atom N475 processor. The update also means that 5103 will be supporting for DDR3 memory which will only means that it will be delivering a slightly faster performance.
Aside from these initial specs, the HP Mini 5103 will also include the following features;
- Sports a 10.1 inch diagonal widescreen LED Backlit WVSGA or 10.1 inch diagonal LED backlit HD display
- Comes with up to 320GB of HDD or 126GB of SSD space
- Comes with an optional touchscreen
- Optional Broadcom Crystal HD GPU
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
- Comes with 2 GB of RAM
- Intel GMA 3150 GPU integrated graphics
- Includes port such as Ethernet port, three USB 2.0 port, and VGA port
- Wi-Fi b/g/n connectivity
- Comes with an SD card reader
- Built-in 2 megapixel webcam
- Multi-touch trackpad
In terms of looks, the HP Mini 5103 is not far different from the 5102 model. It has also some of its specs and features but it has some major improvements as well. As of now the HP Mini 5103 is not yet offered worldwide and only available for purchase in Italy at a price ranging from € 482 and € 597.
