Recently, HP filed for a trademark application for the “Palmpad” at the USPTO. With this trademark application, speculations arise that HP is planning to come up with a new tablet product line in the very near future.

Previously, a lot of rumors are going around regarding the launch of a tablet called HP Slate which is believed to be Windows 7 powered. However, upon HP’s filing for this trademark application for the Palmpad, it appears that HP is going to launch more than one product line. In addition to this, there were also ongoing rumors that HP will be moving away from Google Android powered and Windows 7 version of its tablet. These rumors became even stronger with HP’s purchase of the Palm for a billion dollars.
Apparently HP bought the Palm and spent billions for one obvious reason, its webOS which is believed to become the focus for HP’s portable computer business in the future.
We can strongly say that a webOS is a solid foundation for any tablet. With the union between HP and Palm we can expect that they will be coming out with great portable devices. Palm has smart software people while HP has smart hardware people. With this great combination, we can expect something really big.
Names really form a major part in the success of any product. And “Palmpad” sounds to be a perfect name for a new tablet. It’s a pad that comes in a size that perfectly fits your palm and also comes with Palm’s webOS. How does that sounds to you? It seems to be just perfect isn’t it?
There were also previous rumors that have appeared regarding a webOS tablet named Hurricane, although there is no information if this is already the Palmpad. Some reviews revealed speculations that the Palm Pad will have a Dual-Mode Multitouch display and basically combines a Wacom active digitizer with a finger-friendly multitouch capacitive layer that allows its user to use their fingerprint or a special stylus pen. But as stated, nothing of these specs is official yet.
As of now, nothing has been really confirmed. Specs as well as features of the HP Palmpad tablet have not yet been made known. There have been no details regarding its released date as well. We’ll just have to wait for HP’s official announcement. But some strongly believes that a new tablet called the Palmpad is set to unveil in the very near future.
