It’s obvious that the heat for smartphone supremacy has been transferred through the tablets as well. And of course, Android wouldn’t be that naïve to give Apple a 2-year headstart just like what it did to its first iPhone device last 2007 putting every mobile companies into its knees for more than 18 months.
As of this month, we’ve seen two spectacular tablets which are quite ready for the task to be called as an “ipad-competitor” and their names are the HP Touchpad and HTC Flyer.
I wouldn’t go much into their specs details but it’s clear that Touchpad has the advantage when it comes to specifications against the Flyer. Just looking at its 1.2GHz dual-core makes the 1.5GHz (single-core) CPU of the HTC tablet cringe a little bit.
Anyway, the real battle goes on once these two devices got their proper release on the market and from the looks of it, HP Touchpad got the advantage again as its price is predicted to land on 699 USD (off the contract) whereas the freshly leaked HTC Flyer price on Amazon Germany confirms its price would arrive at 669 euros (equivalent to 730 USD).
Nevertheless, the Flyer still has some remaining guns on its sleeves. Not because it’s using Android 2.4 instead of Android 3.0 (which I consider as a demerit), but because it’s using a new type of pen-based navigation (HTC Scribe) in which the early impressions I’ve seen looks stunning. It’s almost similar to your traditional way of writing towards a paper!
Anyway, let’s see how this one plays out once both of these tablets got their proper release next quarter of this year.
