HTC Edge: Release With Quad Core CPU, Price Concerns For All?

Posted on 08 November 2011 by pinoytutorial

If you are keeping up with all the superphones revealed for this quarter, you should know Android’s three biggest companies have already unveiled their mecha i.e, Droid Razr for Motorola, Galaxy Nexus / Galaxy S II Skyrocket for Samsung and Rezound / Vivid for HTC. However, it appears everything is about to change once again as insiders manage to leak what could be the next-generation phone heading towards HTC next year.

htc edge HTC Edge: Release With Quad Core CPU, Price Concerns For All?

According to pocketnow, HTC Edge will be the company’s first device going to be powered by quad-core processor hinted to be Nvidia Tegra 3 AP30 CPU clocked at 1.5GHz. Its other specifications include a 4.7-inch form factor with a 10mm thick form-factor which is slightly chubbier than Rezound. Naturally, its screen display is enormed with 720p resolution, 1GB RAM with two cameras: an eight megapixel shooter with f/2.2 lens and 1080p video recording capability plus, a front-facing camera based on the images above. It’s also assumed it’ll pack a big 32GB internal storage although it’s not mentioned if this one will have a microSD expandable slot or it will follow Galaxy Nexus footsteps of removing that feature.

In addition to that, several sources predict it’ll have its own music store (HTC Listen) along with other services exclusive for the company like HTC Read bookstore, a gaming hub along with a movie streaming site offering HD quality resolution. And of course, its audio will be infused by Beats so there’s no doubt its price will hit $299 instantly under a 2-year contract or even more. However, as powerful as this device may sound, it’s not yet revealed if Edge will support 4G LTE network since the report only hints it’ll pack HSDPA+ (up to 21Mbps download time). Perhaps, this will depend on what type of carrier it’ll land so we expect it’ll have a different moniker as well.

Last but not the least, since this device is most probably going to be announced next year, it’ll receive Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on its announcement or shortly after its public release as an OTA upgrade. Although our real concern is its price that may break the 299-dollar barrier with Android superphones next year. Do you think this pricing will be the new standard?
