A few months ago, we revealed HTC’s conceptual phone – The HTC Supersonic. Back then, we only had speculations what this “super” smartphone would look like as well as the tech specs every geek raves about. Now, Sprint has officially released the tidings that the supersonic will be called The HTC EVO 4G. Sprint has been one of the quick players in broadband industry compared with AT&T or Verizon wireless.
The HTC EVO 4G is considered the world’s first 4G smartphone. It’s absolutely brilliant tagline and marketing gimmick (any comments Steve Jobs?). Prior to its release, there were speculations that T-Mobile will serve as its carrier and not Sprint. Well, T-Mobile now handle the HTC HD2 instead which we think was dwarfed by the beefier specs of HTC EVO.
The HTC EVO 4G will have a large 4.3 capacitive display monitor – larger than HTC HD2 or Nexus one. It will be powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 similar to Nexus One and will have the latest Android 2.1 OS. Some reports claim that the new sense UI will be added on the HTC EVO 4G. A great upgrade indeed that will make phone browsing more fluid compare with Google Nexus One.
The flagship however of this mobile phone is the 3G/4G capability. Sprint has began to make tours on several American States to establish a 4G capable networks allowing people to utilize WiMax technology in full. With 4G access, mobile phone users will have desktop DSL-like bandwidth right on their fingertips with peak download speed of 12Mbps and uploads of 1Mbps.
If you can’t fathom how fast this is, imagine a 3G broadband connection will allow you to download up to 600Kbps. Then, compare that with 4G which tops at 10-12 Mbps – it’s a cool 10x difference! With HTC EVO 4G, you can surf the net, download videos, mp3s, ringtones and perhaps play online games on your mobile phones in a snap!
The HTC EVO 4G has a lot to offer with an upgrade of 8MP dual LED flash camera and a 1.3MP front-facing camera that is good for video conference and calls. HTC HD2 and Nexus One will be a thing of the past with EVO 4G’s 720p HD-quality video capture coupled with HDMI ready connector port. And to accommodate such large quantity of data, the smartphone will have 1GB ROM and 512RAM coupled with expandable microSD slot that can handle up to 32GB.
One problem we see however, is the limitation in geographic usage for this smartphone. Third world countries and other nations in the East haven’t installed 4G networks yet. Thus, people would probably think twice before buying the phone since they won’t be able to utilize its ultra fast connection. Well, we’re still hoping for the best. Miracles do happen nowadays right?
We prefer not to divulge all information in a snap or your brain would probably melt from information overload. But all in all, the HTC Evo 4G might be the next big step on smartphone technology. We are very eager to witness its official release on summer of this year. However, Sprint is stingy on giving information regarding its price.
Comparison Chart: Endgeeks provided a handy breakdown of specs for the ‘most popular’ android phones of our time, add the new evo 4g to that!

I must say the moto-droid got a proper beating there (in respect to specs) What do you think? For me? I wouldn’t be worrying too much of which is which, for all you know, every 2-3 months a new superphone always rises from the ashes — Remember, droid was the messiah phone of October, nexus phone was the superphone of January, and now Evo 4G will just might be the new superphone of summer. Oh wait a minute, isn’t iPhone 4g just around the corner?
I say patience could be a real virtue sometimes….

The HTC EVO 4G “RULES”
All others “DROOL”
:D
Just picked up this phone and my only complaint is the drain on the battery while 4G is enabled… but that’s expected really.
Also, I hate it when people quote the iPhone 4 as 4G. It’s not a 4G phone, and wont be unless AT&T buys Sprint.
HTC EVO………..BETTER DAN I PHONE HANDS…….I DIDNT GET TO SAY DOWN YET
