Internet Explorer 9 / IE9: Problems and Review of Features

Posted on 15 March 2011 by pinoytutorial

Sure, Internet Explorer may not be most popular browser for the entire netizens today, but it doesn’t mean it won’t be improving itself to become competitive against other internet browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.

As of the moment, the Internet Explorer 9 has finally been revealed! And after almost a year of wait, and bunch of RC releases, IE9 is now available for download today and it’s looking good!

Just like what we reported before, the latest browser would incorporate major tweaks in terms of its capability to support javascript pages, flash, etc. Also, by introducing more UI friendly features, IE9 is expected to come out as one of the fastest internet browsers today. In fact, MS is introducing a new Jscript engine called as Chakra incorporated on the new browser which improves the compiling of scripts by doing it on separate CPU cores, giving parallel latency while users are browsing a page.

Anyway, as good as this release may sound, errors and bugs would always become imminent. And as of the moment, IE9 is only available for Windows computers and there’s no given release date for its Mac and availability for other operating systems.

As of the moment, one of the “dilemma” some users are experiencing is the fact that they managed to download the wrong version of IE9 for their system. You see, there’s a 32bit and 64bit version of IE9 available and it’s tailored for your operating system, either if it’s an XP, Vista or Windows 7. Obviously, when you tried to install a 32-Bit version on your 64-bit computer, it won’t be compatible. Anyway, zdnet has a great solution for that.

I used Firefox and IE8. I had no trouble in Google Doc upload files. Once I install IE9, Google Doc uploading cannot work. But in Firefox, it’s still OK. So I believe it’s a problem in IE9!

IE9 is slow, many sites will not work correctly I shall now redo my machine to an earlier time, like before I had IE9. Do not download it if you have a limited internet connexion or you do not have a I7 or above processor!!!

IE9 has introduced new bugs in javascript: document.open appears not to release memory. If you use open()/close()-sequences more than 24 times (at least on a 4Gb-system) the screen turns blank.
The clear()-method is no longer supported and using the meta-command to set the document-version does not work. Thank you Microsoft, again….
