Internet Explorer users are dumb people, dumber than the rest of other web browsers, says a new study released by AptiQuant.
AptiQuant Psychometric Consulting Company in Canada conducted a thorough online study with 101,326 respondents over the age of 16 which then published the outcome as average IQ scores based on browser usage. And the Internet Explorer, long ago around and long-time haunted by security issues and incompatibility with web standards, suffered the most, tipping at the lowest scale on user’s IQ levels. The open-source Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari have scored way much better. While Mac OS X-native browser built on Mozilla’s Gecko rendering engine Camino, Opera and IE with Chrome Frame have scored at the upper level.
Ever vaguely remember the days when Netscape Navigator competes with Internet Explorer in the way to the web? Since then Microsoft had racked its brains out trying to dominate the market with IE, and even though it managed to so do for a few good years, gulping at the most at least 95% of it, recently its lion’s share were slowly grabbed by the other open browsers while apparently doing you a much better browsing job.
Now this study is likely to stir up a few ruckus. Those on the low level of the IQ score are likely to resist change in their browsing habit, and thus find it hard to be open to upgrades and be updated with the latest security measures. Maybe this is just what IT companies needs to finally look at how their own company’s browser usage reflects on their over-all growth performance.
