We have recently discovered that Apple is developing a new way to unlock its iOS-based devices. It is a gesture-based lock screen that works by gliding your finger across 9 dots to create the right pattern. The feature isn’t unique since Android has been using it across its devices.

9to5mac has reported that the new 9-dot pattern lock option is intended to replace the password or the number code. It wasn’t confirmed, however, if the feature will be introduced in the next generation of iOS devices (e.g. iPad 2 or iPhone 5). However, Apple have already deployed the technology for employee use via its ‘Apple Connect’ application.
The AppleConnect Gesture works by creating a pattern by swiping across the 9 dots on the screen. The program will indicate if the gesture is long enough to be secured via its progress bar. The number of strokes entirely depends on you. Just make sure you remember the pattern you’ve created.

Meanwhile, it seems that Apple is gearing towards using the feature for its internal applications such as retail-store employee app as well as an integral part of its EasyPay machines. It is understandable that Apple is thinking twice on bringing such feature publicly because Google had patented the technology.
As impressive as it looks, seeing this feature on future i-Gadgets will most probably not happen. Hey, at least Apple was impressed with the idea. One for Android.
