We cannot deny the fact that the iPad is one of Apple’s devices that became a blockbuster hit since the day it penetrated the market. In fact, it has reached more than 3 million sales within the first 80 days after its debut. This is the very reason why lots of manufacturers are also trying to come up with their very own version of this tablet device and take some market share from Apple’s very successful iPad device.
But while these manufacturers are preparing to launch their own tablet version, Apple is also preparing to launch the second generation of this very popular iDevice. According to some suppliers, Apple is getting ready to introduce the iPad 2 within the second quarter of 2011.
The new iPad 2 will be sporting a 9.7-inch display and will be thinner and much lighter than the first generation of the iPad. In addition to this, the iPad 2 is also believed to be equipped with a camera and supports a mini USB connection as well.
Apparently, one of the newest features that will be offered by this next generation iPad will be its video call function. That is why Apple is expected to offer a dual camera, a front-facing camera and a back camera that would very useful in delivering Face Time via video calls just like the iPod Touch.
Apple seems to be under great pressure especially with Research in Motion’s announcement of a very impressive BlackBerry PlayBook. Apple also faces competition with other manufacturers like Hewlett Packard Co. and Samsung Electronics.
There are also some rumors that Apple will be coming out with a 7-inch tablet, but details were not finalized yet that is why this 9.7-inch tablet will be released first. Two Goldman Sachs analysts named Henry King and Kevin Lu stated that Apple is still undecided on what company to choose to help them build iPads and keep up with its growing demands. However, there were some reports that most likely Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the world’s largest contract maker of electronics will be chosen by Apple to be its supplier.
Most probably the new iPad 2 will be introduced by Apple in a special media event. So let us just wait for more details and see what the new iPad 2 has in store for us.
