iPhone 5 Ban on Korea: Cunning Move by Samsung?

Posted on 20 September 2011 by pinoytutorial

Apple is coming out with the iPhone 5 and with its upcoming release; there are some ongoing rumors that Samsung Electronics is planning to ban the sale of said smartphone in Korea. Apparently, Samsung has decided to come up with this plan as a way of showing its retaliation to Apple for its continuous patent suit against Samsung Electronics in the global market. In fact, Samsung and Apple have at least 23 pending lawsuits in countries such as Japan, Germany, France, the US and a lot more are expected to come.

The raging battle between these two companies has been going on for months and continues to heat up. And from the way we see it, these are also the same companies who are leading when it comes to smartphones and tablet. That is why it is not really surprising at all why Samsung and Apple are engaged in this type of battle. Apple has also banned the sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab in several countries like Netherland and Australia. Additionally, Apple has also claimed that Samsung has copied some of the features of the iPhone and iPad product range and in return, Samsung has also filed a countersuit against Apple regarding some technology issues.

According to Samsung officials, they are planning to bring Apple to court for violating Samsung’s wireless technology-related patents. Well, it seems that there is really a tough competition going on between the two companies. However, Samsung is also showing some signs that they are changing their strategy after Apple has won over it in a German court because of a Galaxy Tab issue and this resulted to a ban against the sale of the Galaxy 10.1 tablet PC in Germany. Samsung has already responded to this lawsuit and also filed a countersuit against Apple in Australia.

If Samsung will be successful enough in the suspension of the latest Apple handset – iPhone 5, then this could affect SK Telecom and KT, which are the top 2 mobile carriers in Korea that are authorized to sell iPhones. As of present, Apple is winning over the patent lawsuit war. However, since the Apple iPhone 5 is very much awaited, then, delaying its launch even in Korea only will surely have an effect. Watch out for more updates.
