These past few weeks, it seemed like the upcoming iPhone 5 from the ever secretive team of Steve jobs has not created any bubble to gain marketing momentum. The previously rumored potential enhancements on the successor seem to be only adding a few increments on the surface and not something worth considering as another breakthrough.

From what we’ve heard so far, Apple is to adopt a curved glass cover for the new generation as reported by DigiTimes. If there is any truth to this rumor, this is a potential game changer since it implies that the iPhone 5 will sport a completely new design rather than just a simple update.
The site has been sniffing off its sources from the manufacturing industry again. Allegedly, Apple has purchased 200 to 300 special glass cutting machines to be used specifically on creating those curved glass screens. This move seems to be rooted to an attempt in accelerating the production since glass makers themselves are reluctant to buy the machinery because of its rather exorbitant cost.
This sense of urgency may push iPhone 5’s rumored September launch to be moved on an earlier date. We do not have a confirmation about how curved the glasses will be (or if it will be really curved at all) but speculators think that maybe it could be similar to the style of the screen in the fifth generation iPod Nano.
