The Independent just broke out the news that the built-in Near Field Communication (NFC) hardware won’t be available in Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5. Instead, Apple will be introducing a new scheme, the “wave and pay”, according to several mobile operators in the UK. Later, it was noted that the Cupertino Company was concerned regarding the lack of clear universal NFC standard in the industry.

NFC is the latest technology commonly used nowadays in Japan which will allow the contactless and wireless payment of products and services using your own phone. It is similar to bluetooth expect it’s much faster. The hype over NFC started this year as it becomes the major feature of Samsung Nexus S when it was launched last year.
It was earlier noted that the iPhone 5 will get NFC upgrade which stirred up excitement because it will not only enable contactless payments but act as electronic badges as well. Without the NFC capabilities initially rumored to be included in the next generation iPhones (and iPads), Apple is cooking up their own propositions using iTunes to link payments which will probably be launched by next year.
Will the absence of the NFC capability hugely affect the iPhone 5? Apple has been very successful in all their innovations so far. I bet that iPhone 5 would still get the warm reception with or without.
