It’s finally official! We won the choice to keep our Classic Groups! The new remodel is going to be offered as an option to choose, not something we have to opt out of!

Below is the link to the video which is the unprinted part of Carol Bartz’s interview with USA Today, and the first question is about Yahoo Groups.

It proves it without a doubt, that we did win our fight to keep Classic Groups! I’m not sure why the video part of the interview wasn’t transcribed with the rest of it, that would have helped greatly, but at least it’s now here for all to see. (Sigh of relief).

The main problem with yahoo is its CEO (the one who like to tell people to fuck off. Since she got there she put quite an imprint: the once reliable email became erratic, they added tons of useless clumsy ‘social ‘ features were added to it, its interface is lot worse, its news became impossible to read because garbage pops up as you move your mouse, etc. etc.. Talk about loosing focus. It sounds like a ‘whatever works strategy’. Which means they will stop being good at what they were good at (email), and try to be good at everything and anything. I’d say she will be out in 12-24months.

all the stuff she’s saying and doing: won’t matter, because every yahoo service does these wonderful things: ignores requests from users, even for basic and obvious features (esp flickr), even for paying customers; offers “help pages” and “instructions” that look clear and useful but rarely are, once you try to use them (and sometimes it’s hard to even find them); and on the rare occasions it feels compelled to interact with users, is abrupt, dismissive, and capricious (again, especially on flickr – you can see for yourself the many, many threads of longtime or new users contemplating quitting flickr altogether, or saying good bye).

mail is simply awful: huge, blinking, sometimes flat-out gross ads cover the page, with your actual mail squeezed off to the left. and more such garbage. so ms carol, you can talk tough or whatever all you want, but since yahoo feels it’s above such things as good user experience, it will continue to sink. companies exist only when they have users.
