We’re now at the third week of Google+ and looking back with its astounding release earlier this month, one of the things that drive attention with this social-networking site is its growth which already reached 10 million users as confirmed by Larry Page last week. However, if we’ll compare it with the amount of audience and users of Facebook and Twitter, we all know the gap is still ginormous. This lead us into thinking, how does the two social networking site attract so many users?
Well, if we’ll see the growth of Twitter on 2005 and 2006, it’s really not phenomenal unlike on 2008 when the entertainment industry endorse it like Ashton Kutcher, Oprah and pop-singers like Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber – not to mention US President used his account as one of hits ‘secret’ tools to promote his campaign during the 2008 election.
Come to think of it, the midas touch of the entertainment group is what Google+ lacks. In fact, several reports suggest majority of its users all reside with tech-savvy individuals who works at the industry dominated by men. So how will the company be able to attract celebrities like Gaga and Bieber again?
Well, its now confirmed today Big G is planning to implement a verification system to ID genuine celebs in which the idea is similar with Twitter’s verified user system. This will be a part of Google+’s “celebrity acquisition” which is expected to be rolled out soon, and it features out some simple yet powerful identification system to prevent others of impersonating someone else’s profile.
But it doesn’t stop from there. Later on, it’s also revealed Google will also hire top talent agents in the entertainment industry to invite request for pop celebrities to create their own Circles as well.
If you’ll ask me, this is a great plan just make sure the whole enchilada wouldn’t ruin the simplistic nature of Google+ compared to Facebook and Twitter which now looks too complex especially for those who are just adapting to its system today.
In our previous report, we revealed several ways to make G+ even a remarkable social-networking site and make it one of the best place for social interaction in the web. What do you think?
