We were certainly caught off guard – a little bit – with the announcement of Amazon today, primarily since we assumed Kindle Touch and the new Kindle for this year will be released under one product but it turns out, they came separately in two models with super cheap prices.
Then again, the real meat of the announcement was the Kindle Fire tablet which is practically like the rumors we’ve heard before that its physical appearance shows resemblance with Blackberry Playbook, will come under a fully customized Android UI, offers boatload of Amazon goodies and its price will be darn cheap – at 199 USD to be exact.
However, even with all of these fancy offerings we can’t say it will kill the iPad. As analysts suggest, that device won’t come into existence — not in this year to say the least. For now, we can say the bonuses gave by Amazon for Kindle Fire as well as its affordable price may attract even those users who already have an iPad and planning to buy a cheap tablet just for fun. Especially when you realize the 14.6 ounce svelte offers one-month access to Amazon prime which means free movies and tv-series on that duration as well.
For the side of iPad, its a full consumer-electronic device that can be used on ways Kindle Fire can only dream about. But still, we wouldn’t mind Apple if they’ll borrow a couple of tricks from Amazon’s sleeves like a dash of price discount and a couple of digital bonuses to be thrown away.
Now, if you’ll ask me if this one will kill the new Kobo and Nook Color, there’s a chance that might be the case. But we all know Nook Color 2 is just right around the corner; however, it’s clear that if both companies would want to compete with Amazon, they should make their next device insanely cheap with freebies to offer.
For me, Kindle Fire is similar when you watch those good ole tv-commericials and after seeing its official price, you’ll hear “but wait there’s more” offer that changes your impression all over again, in a good way.
