Kindle Library Lending: Beta Release and Review — How Does it Work?

Posted on 23 September 2011 by pinoytutorial

Here is some good news for e-books fanatics out there. Amazon has just launched the Kindle library lending feature that will allow Kindle users to check out a wide variety of e-books from library websites. This feature has long been awaited especially by avid e-book readers out there. With this lending program, users will be able to access and borrow books from more than 11,000 US libraries. At present, it is already in beta testing so we can expect its official launch anytime soon. In fact, there were some rumors that it will be officially launched within the month or if not, it will be before the year ends.

This is such a cool feature that a lot of Kindle users will surely appreciate. It is also very simple to use. All you need to do is log on to the site of the participating library, search for the book that you like and if there is an e-book version available, there will be a “Send to Kindle” option shown. And once the users choose that option they will be asked for a library card number and the transaction will already be completed. And the good thing about it, is that all of these comes for free.

As mentioned, there are more than 11,000 US libraries where we can borrow books so if you have a valid library card, then, you can take advantage of this feature. Each of these libraries basically set their own loan time, but after the digital book’s due date it will automatically become inactive unless the user decides to check it out again. As compared with traditional books that we often read in the library, this Kindle library lending program encourages users to take notes even while reading. And once the book rental already expires, then users will be able to see their notes.

This feature will be available to all Kindle models that include Kindle 3, Kindle DX, Kindle 1 and Kindle 2 and other platform apps like the Kindle Cloud Reader. Books can be downloaded over Wi-Fi or USB, but apparently it will not be 3G supported.

So if you love reading e-books, then, watch out for it.
