It seems that Amazon, the company behind the e-reader Amazon Kindle is doing quite an interesting move lately. Amazon is trying to expand its e-reading platform as it launches the all-new Kindle Singles. The Kindle Singles is basically a category in the Kindle Store and more of a Kindle book that is almost twice the length of a typical magazine article or as much as a few chapters of a standard book. According to Amazon, the Kindle Singles will be offered at lower prices than full-length books.
Amazon strongly believes that 10,000 to 30,000 words or around 30 to 90 pages will be just a perfect length for serious writers, scientists, business leaders, politicians as well as publishers to lay out their ideas on certain topics whether it is a business lesson, scientific argument, political views and simply an essay about a certain event or occurrence. And through the Amazon Kindle Singles, it will allow more readers around the world to see those works.
Basically, the Kindle Singles aim to reach out those publishers as well as accomplished writers out there and it seems really exciting how they will respond with the presence of these new Kindle Singles. Well, obviously Amazon has seen a potential in these shorter pieces of work which haven’t had a real place in the market as of present.
Amazon may be right especially with the growing number of e-readers nowadays. That is why the need for e-publications is also on the rise especially with the presence of digital readers nowadays which now include devices such as smartphones that sports smaller screens. It was also observed that most e-readers nowadays are more inclined in reading shorter e- books maybe because the traditional books can be very boring at times.
Like most of the Kindle content, the Kindle Singles will be a “Buy Once, Read Everywhere” as more customers will be able to read them through Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Blackberry and other Android smartphones as well.
However, Amazon did not give any information as to when this new service will be available, how much it will cost and whether it will be uploaded via Amazon’s do-it-yourself Digital Text Platform. But according to some gadget websites the Singles is expected to be sold for around 49 cents only and most likely there will be some free contents available too. Well, it seems that we’ve got some good news not only for writers out there but for e-readers as well.
