And the streak continues for LG as the company just announced Optimus 3D Max a.k.a 3D Cube a few days before Mobile World Congress. For those unaware, the device will be the successor of LG Optimus 3D of last year (LG Thrill 4G in United States) whereas “3D Max” will be marketed on Western countries starting with Europe, while its moniker “3D Cube” is vested for Koreans now serving under SK Telecom network.
As the name suggests, the 3D phone is built with several 3D functionalities enabling you to watch and convert 2D images and videos into three-dimensional via its converter app. Interestingly, the device also lets users capture 3D photos and videos and have them edited under the device without using some fancy software application. There’s also a “3D Hot Key” on the side of the phone which can be toggle so users can easily switch from 2D or 3D view without any interruption, let’s say when you are browsing Google Maps or watching a movie.
Meanwhile, its specs is still the same from what we heard last month packing a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor, 4.3-inch WVGA Gorilla Glass 2 display, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (no mention of an expandable microSD slot). 5MP camera with dual lens and front-facing cam, 1520mAh battery, HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps download speed); NFC for mobile wallet transactions and to support LG’s latest “Tag+” sticker which automatically changes the phone’s settings with just a swipe ala Optimus LTE Tag. And other common things you see on a smartphone like WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS support.
Interestingly, the new 3D child is expected to feature out several media-editing apps which users can download on LGsmartworld.com like “HD Converter” transforming 2D to 3D via Open GL standards, “Range Finder” to know the distance of a camera and its subject, and “Out-focusing Shot” to further enhance the image processing of its camera. On top of that, LG proudly announced the device’s sexier and lighter package which only weighs 148 grams and measures 9.6mm for its thickness compared with the chubby Optimus 3D at 11.9mm.
Similar with other Optimus phones that debuted this week, 3D Max will be powered by Android 2.3. Ice Cream Sandwich will follow soon via an OTA update after its release on Korea next month all the way to the west after that period. Price details expected to follow on MWC next week.
