Music lovers, say goodbye to free music download as well as paid music. LimeWire is closing down at the end of the month.

The LimeWire Group will be closing down their LimeWire Store on December 31, 2010 as a result of a federal judge ordering the music group to stop its operations because of violation of copyright laws. LimeWire Store, which is a music store where people can buy legitimate music at a small cost, have already posted in their site that they will not be accepting new customers anymore. Current customers, on the other hand, can use up their remaining credits until it closes at the end of the month. Together with this, the LimeGroup will also close down their office in New York.
According to a statement by LimeWire, closing down the music store is a result of the current legal situation they are in where they received a federal injunction last October. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) filed a lawsuit against LimeWire after it was proven that since its founding in 2000it was hurting record companies because a lot of fans are downloading music for free. This has resulted in decrease of sales for music companies and artists.

Despite that, LimeWire says it is proud of the accomplishments that they have done in creating LimeWire. “Despite our dedication and efforts, December 31, 2010 will mark the day when LimeWire Store shuts its virtual doors”.
Even though the LimeWire Store is shutting, there is a report that music lovers have an alternative to download music. It is said that the P2P LimeWire application hasn’t been totally shut down yet and that a “rogue” group released a LimeWire Pirate Edition last month. The difference of this with the original LimeWire P2P is that the premium functionality is turned on and the bloat is stripped out, according to some reports. And it looks like this new addition of file-sharing has been welcomed that the Lime Group itself had to come out with a cease-and-desist order to stop it from being distributed.
There are also other alternatives is getting music that other users can use. When LimeWire P2P was shut down, a new P2P application called FrostWire came out that had the exact features as that of LimeWire, and this is being used by some file-sharing people. There is also the uTorrent and Bit Torrent to get movies and other files aside from music. The sad part is the days of file-sharing are numbered as more and more P2P companies are being raided every now and then. So, before everything disappears, get all the files that you need.
