Apple just unveiled the Magic Trackpad last July 27. The Magic Trackpad is the very first multi-touch trackpad that is especially designed for Mac desktop computers. Basically, it is a trackpad that you will usually find on a Macbook or Macbook Pro but comes in a larger version. It will enable Mac desktop users’ multitouch powers, Bluetooth connectivity and a full set of gestures.

As mentioned, the Magic Trackpad is basically bigger than that of the Macbook Pro touchpad. It has 80% more surface area which gives more room for scrolling, pinching, swiping and rotating to your finger’s content. Since the entire surface acts as a button, it is seen to be a possible mouse replacement.
This Magic Trackpad is made of an advanced touch-friendly and wear-resistant glass surface just like the Macbook Pro. It also features the same aluminum sculpted design with all the angles that is similar to Apple’s wireless keyboard.
The Magic Trackpad comes with a full set of gestures which include:
- two finger scrolling
- pinch to zoon
- fingertip rotation
- three-finger swiping
- activating Expose or switching between applications with four fingers
These gestures can be easily be enabled or disabled depending on your choice through the System Preferences. So if you find one or two gestures unnecessary, all you need to do is just go to the Magic Trackpad pane in the Sytem Preferences and disable the said gestures.
This Magic Trackpad is simply amazing since it works using Bluetooth technology. You don’t have worry about cable clutter which is really annoying. With this Bluetooth technology, you can simply enjoy secure, and a reliable connection even up to 33 feet distance.
The Magic Trackpad also has the ability to detect inactivity and equipped with an on/off switch which helps conserve battery. Like a few of Apple’s computer peripherals, the Magic Trackpad is also battery operated. And in line with this, Apple also launched their first battery charger that comes with 6 AA batteries.
The Magic Trackpad was launched shortly after Apple’s Magic Mouse was released. The Magic Mouse is believed to have brought limited multi-touch functionality to Apple’s desktop unlike the Magic Trackpad which comes with a full set of gestures. However, it requires a Bluetooth enabled Mac computer, OS X Snow Leopard v10 6.4 and latest software update.
The Magic Trackpad may put an end to the mouse or may be used in combination with it. The Magic Trackpad is now available and selling with a price tag of $69 – which is the same with the Magic Mouse.
