Posted on 18 August 2010 by pinoytutorial

In one way or another, the cost of phone calls has shifted to the internet these past few years. In fact, lots of programs and applications in the net allow free phone calls between computers and from a computer to a landline as well. However, MagicTalk aims to do better than this.

MagicTalk comes from VocalTec Communications LTD which is the very same company that launched MagicJack, an internet gadget that allows its users to make unlimited calls from one phone to another. Basically, the MagicTalk is a software that intends to totally eliminate fees incurred in calling landlines and cellphones in the US and Canada and gives no time limit for each call.

Since VocalTec operates as a phone company, it is definitely not impossible for it to provide free calls through the MagicTalk. With MagicTalk, each user will be given a phone number that is directly associated with the software. Users will also be given the option to move their existing numbers to this service with only a minimal fee. This option will also be available for MagicJack users soon.

The MagicTalk differs from MagicJack since the latter makes use of a small hardware box just like a USB to serve as an interface between a regular phone and a computer. With MagicTalk, international calls will be charged as well as other phone companies placing their call on VocalTec’s network. Only domestic calls made within the US or within Canada will be free under this service.

MagicJack’s CEO describes this type of service to be more like the Skype and Google Voice. Basically, MagicTalk service promises free phone calls from computers, smartphones and even iPad devices as well. Apparently this service will be made available for Windows and Mac users starting next week. By October, it will also be available for iOS, BlackBerry and Android users as well.

In some test conducted on the MagicTalk service, the sound quality proves to be excellent even with international calls as compared with the MagicJack in which some of its users find its sound quality to be a little bit shaky.

Overall, the MagicTalk service seems to be a good alternative for those people who are sick and tired of having those expensive phone bills. Well, it really looks like online-based communication technology is finally making its way to give us the best communication experience and keeps us connected with our loved ones for free.
