Mass Effect 3′s arrival is just a month away, and news about the game just keeps on coming. Possibly the biggest of them yet is the iOS-exclusive storyline called Mass Effect Infiltrator. No, it’s not a port for ME3, because it’s really doubtful that a mobile device can carry a game that huge, but a tie-in with a new playable character.

In Infiltrator, you as the player take control of Randall Ezno, a spec ops officer of the terrorist group Cerberus who turns around and decides to put his loyalties with Commander Shepard, main protagonist of the Mass Effect series. This doesn’t mean you’ll get to see the commander and have fun on his ship though, as Ezno will take on solo missions such as information collection and freeing prisoners from Ezno’s former employers. Gameplay is not like ME3, as Infiltrator is focused on fighting and not role-playing and building up a party. After all, Ezno is working alone, and there’s no way of recruiting people to your side.
If you think you’d rather pass this up, it’s worth mentioning that everything you do in Infiltrator affects the main game. Whatever items or intel Ezno has managed to pick up will be fed to Shepard’s inventory, and while they’re not essential for finishing the game, they can help get a good ending. Not the best possible ending, mind you, but one of the better ME endings if you play your cards right.
Mass Effect Infiltrator has no release date or price tag yet, but it will be available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod. However, with the amazing quality of the screenshots provided, it’s probably best to play it on an iPad so the full experience of Infiltrator wont be missed.
