A recently published article on news blog The Daily had gotten a lot of hopes up about a Microsoft Office suite for the Apple iPad, but its legitimacy is currently being put into question, proving that you shouldn’t believe everything you see on the Internet.

The original article claimed that members of the website have gotten a hold of a working prototype of the MS app, and have managed to use it on the aforementioned device. Some images are also shown off, but they don’t reveal many features of the app. Anonymous sources say that the app will be sent to Apple soon, and the real version of the app could be released very soon.
However, a spokesperson from Microsoft had come out to debunk the rumors spread by the site, and says that the report was based on speculation alone. To that, The Daily replied that the news and app prototype were sent from an inside source, and that nothing within the report was fabricated. Subsequently, a tweet from Microsoft said “great respect for The Daily but regrettably someone is giving them bad info, and that’ll be clear in the ‘coming weeks’,” effectively ending the debate.
Of course, there’s still a chance that someone will speak up again, but so far no one has decided to do so. This also brings up the question as to what the software company has planned, as it neither affirmed or disagreed completely with the report, only saying that everything will be cleared up soon. This could be a clue that Microsoft may be planning something, but not as anyone expects.
