Cloud based music and video stream is getting more and more popular these days. Google and Apple have similar services on its arena. And we can’t help but wonder when will Microsoft join the pack? According to this insider report, Microsoft seems like planning to create such platform called “Ventura”.

The details are very scarce as of the moment and we can only speculate on the possibilities about Microsoft’s secret cloud music / video platform. Zdnet was the first to disclose this information and said that it is possible that the Ventura project could be added (or completely replace) with Zune music / video service.
Additionally, the Ventura is apparently the name of a set of services currently being developed by Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Unit. The team is dedicated on building music and video discovery services. Another interesting piece of evidence – that proves the existence of Ventura – is the fact that Microsoft is currently hiring able Software engineers to become part of its Ventura Media Services team.
An excerpt from the job description:
The Ventura Media Services team is looking for a highly motivated Software Development Engineer to help drive some great new service innovation.
Who are we? We are Ventura Media Services – an agile team working on the beginning of some very large scale projects. We incubate, innovate and iterate. We are all about building services the right way. The team is a tight group of music and video lovers that create services and experiences revolving around musicvideo discovery and consumption. We are not afraid to try new things in the name of pushing the bleeding edge of technology.
As of now, we cannot confirm exactly what Microsoft’s plans are for the future of its music and video services. It is possible that the cloud-based Ventura project could be embedded on its WP7 phones, Windows PCs or even in its Xbox 360 console, who knows? Only time will tell.
