Four giants are all set to announce the next generation Droid on June 23, Wednesday. Motorola, Google, Verizon and – not to be left behind- Adobe, will be launching the latest Droid gear out in New York. I suppose this should be very exciting for those who want to upgrade from the original Droid.

Thanks to the power of World Wide Web; good news moves around fast. Droid 2 has been unveiled before it is even launched. We can go figure out its advantages over the classic Droid.
One could observe it is not so much of the physical that has been changed. The keyboard has been redesigned, eliminating the directional pad so that the keys are now a little wider. From the original black with gold highlights, Droid 2 is now in blue with silver metal highlights.

Under its hood lies the main area of improvement. Droid 2 boosts a 1GHz TI OMAP3630 processor and 512MB of RAM advancing it to some benchmark scores that are utterly forceful against its predecessor which only uses a 550MHz TI OMAP3430. The new OMAP3630 performs a higher clock speed and one of the first mobile platforms to utilize a 45nm production process. Droid 2 almost doubled the frames per second of Droid 1. Although both are using the same GPU, the higher CPU speed and twice the memory (512 MB vs 256 MB) must have helped produced better results.

Droid 2 features an FM Radio, GPS, HDMI port, USB port. Droid 2 allows you to jump to any screen with its new Moto Blur, Updated Home Screen Navigation. It includes several interface state changes like live Wallpapers and additional Home Screens. Droid 2 sports a very thin size and light-weight with four buttons on the front that allows users to go Back, go to Menu, Home and Search. Good thing is it will feature a 4.3-inch FWVGA screen and an 8MP camera with dual LED capable of 720p recording which is now far away from the QWERTY keyboards.
Very thin and handy, it will surely be a sensible choice for you to buy.

There’s no HDMI port in this model. That’s only the Droid X.
That last bit at the very end sums up the Droid X. The Droid 2 doesn’t have a 4.3″ screen or a HDMI port…
It doesn’t have a 8MP camera either
