Looking for a new phone? Want something new and exciting at the same time? Well, wait no more because according to some rumors Motorola Droid 2 is soon to enter the market by August.

According to a very reliable source, Motorola Droid 2 is going to have a soft launch on August 12 and an official launch is scheduled on August 23 to give way for the completion and enhancement of its promotion and advertising plans.
What’s so amusing is that the Motorola Droid 2 will come with a special Star Wars edition phone that comes with a white R2-D2 on the back. Apparently, this is not Verizon’s first time to have Star Wars in their phone line up. Previously, with its license from Lucas Film, it also had come up with the Big Red which was sent to various media outlets last year.
Upon looking at Droid 2, we can say that appearance-wise it is very similar to the original Droid. The Droid 2 is rumored to come up with a pre-installed 8GB microSD card. It will run with the Android 2.1 OS but Verizon may have the option to upgrade it to Android 2.2 upon its official launch.
Aside from these, the Droid 2 also comes with:
- 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen
- 750MHz OMAP Processor
- Wi-Fi tethering
- 8 GB internal memory
- Updated QWERTY keypad
- 5 MP camera
- New version of Motoblur
- GPS
- 3G data
The Droid 2 has no HDMI port as well as a front-facing camera. But this new mobile device is seen as a close rival of the iPhone 4 in the future. The Droid 2 is launching very soon and rumored to be offered at $ 199 under a contract and around $599 if standalone. These prices are not yet confirmed and still subject to change when it penetrates the market.
With the initial specs being laid down, it seems that the Droid 2 has some pretty nice specs that include its processing power. We just hope that it can upgrade to the Android 2.2 in the future.
For now as far as we can see, the specs look strong and believe to be more than sufficient for most users. It may not be able to catch up with the iPhone 4 nor EVO4G but it looks better than that of the original Droid. As of now, we’ll just have to wait and see for ourselves what the Droid 2 has in store for all of us.
