Just in case you have bought that pre-4G smartphone from T-Mobile last June, you’ll certainly feel being left out with the crowd, as your myTouch 3G Slide is still stuck on its age-old Android 2.1 (éclair) version for almost a year now. Anyway, it appears HTC decided to miraculously announced the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for the device, that would finally give it a Flash-based web browsing experience and other Froyo schtuff such as: Wi-Fi calling, USB Tethering, and fixes for Bluetooth and SMS capabilities.

Sadly, this update won’t come as an OTA update and that means, you’ll need to follow several steps to get this the “plugged” way. This involves downloading the HTC_Sync_3.0.511 installer and MyTouch_3G_Software_update_2.15.531, then plugging your device on its USB making sure that you have at least 25MB extra storage and 30% battery power upon proceeding with the installation – the usual SOP. Get the full instructions and download here.
Certainly, this update is the best news for all myTouch 3G Slide users, but that doesn’t mean this is a cause of a celebration either since Froyo isn’t exactly the latest Android version for all “green” smartphones today. And the fact that it’s a plugged update makes it hard for me to believe Gingerbread would be arriving on this device anytime soon. Anyway, let’s see how this one plays out.
