If you are an aspiring astronaut, but do not have the resources to be one then, there is a way to act and feel like a real astronaut through a NASA –sponsored massively multiplayer online game that will take its players to a journey in space in the year 2035. Well, it seems that NASA is trying to educate more people and one way in doing so is by releasing a game that will introduce the astrophysics that people can play with. It is just like hitting two birds with one stone since players can enjoy a great game while learning something about the outer space.
This game that we are talking about is entitled Astronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond and apparently, this game will be like the popular game World of Warcraft. In order to come up with this game, its developers have solicited more than 500 donations via Kickstarter. Amazingly, the results were very much impressive as they have they have made $ 26, 568 in less than 20 days thus, exceeding their target of raising $ 25,000 in 60 days. And because of this, the game’s developer is planning for a beta launch by December, 2012.
In addition to this, its developers also plan to build 3D Avatar community where players will be able to get the chance of going to the Arthur C. Clarke Astronaut Academy Station and learn more about the solar system. Apparently, this academy is similar to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series, but the only difference is that is some sort of “Hogwarts in space.” Additionally, players will also have access to the so-called “Astronaut Handbook” at the virtual library in the said academy as well as get the chance to live in a future timeline. Players will also be given the chance to choose from several character classes that include engineers, physicists and pilots.
NASA MMO online game seems interesting as it managed to educate its players while enjoying the game at the same time. If everything goes out as plan, this game will have its beta version in 2012 and will be coming to PC, Mac and iOS devices upon launch. Watch the video below for more details.
