Lately, the realm of techno-world has been undergoing a complete-metamorphic stage — On the way, how each companies advertise their product. From the mocking of Motorola Droid to iphone, up to the teasing of Apple to Window 7’s broken promises. It seems the battle won’t stop until one reigns supreme!
Today, according to crunchgear – - Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was on The Today Show (A morning news and entertainment program that airs on NBC) to unveil Windows 7. The punch-line? It’s said that the Windows 7 flag was inside an old MacBook Pro (notebook) projected on a BIG TV at the back of Mr. Ballmer.
Take a peek!
Now we aren’t as zippy as the writer from crunchgear (Nicholas Deleon). But to set the facts straight; If the one on the background was really a MacBook, try to compare the snapshot above from the screenshot we captured… (click to enlarge)
Okay hold your horses yet, other “tech-critiques” might say it could be another laptop. Yeah, we agree on that one; However, the mere fact that Microsoft lead us to believe that it was an Apple Mac Notebook makes the whole kabuki-show a success – – don’t you think so? :D
Kudus to crunch-gear for being an “eye” to the whole NBC show today. Keep the enthusiasm alive guys!
Here are the other shots (enjoy!)
Update: This is the whole-video (5:23) coming from MSNBC about the said interview. Time to open your eyes now guys!
So, what do you think: Did Microsoft really used MacBook Pro as a background for promoting Windows 7 – - Ridiculing Mac?

This is obviously a macbook pro, and anyone who says otherwise is wishfully blind or just stupid. There are several key design features that are quintessentially apple:
1. iSight camera in top bezel
2. The camera is surrounded by 2 precisely placed holes from which little hooks automatically extrude when the lid is closed.
3. The button on the base with the LED which you can only JUST see
4. The placement of the IR sensor in relation to the botton
5. The speaker grills with the power button placement
6. The shrunken, inverted-T cursor key layout.
7. Front, slot-loading optical drive, and its placement compared to 3 & 4.
No other manufacturer has this combination of features/design. A couple people have posted pictures of Dells. The dell is very pretty. It’s clearly not even close to the same computer.
Thank you for the follow-up comment: I supposed people on crunchgear are already flaming one another on which is which.
We do appreciate the physical aspect you layout for MacBook Pro. Mr. Ballmer will be quite happy to see this one :D
Owning a MacBook Pro I know that that computer is a MacBook Pro (NOT MacBook Air) That is an older design that was discontinued on October 14th 2008. And it was introduced in January 2006 when they came out with the first Intel processors.
Good Day,
Thank you for siting the difference between Air and Pro. Laying out your experience was really a bonus. Though we don’t disclose the possibility that we have other sources to verify the 2 models, providing comparison is very much appreciated.
That’s funny, the main feature of mac is the aesthetics, it supports Both Operating Systems, i think this article is overkill.
So she starts to show Windows 7 on the tochs screen – fair enough. Balmer craps on about movies, photos, video, etc. Nothing that Apple hasn’t had available FOR OVER 5 YEARS!!!
Come to think of it, Windows 7 is a good name – because it’s 7 YEARS BEHIND APPLE !!!
Come on now. Windows 7 is a good OS. I’ve had the privilege of playing with it since public beta days, and it’s come a long way since Vista. I’ll always be a primary Mac OS X user, but since I tried 7, I liked it right away. I plan on building an Intel Core i7 rig, and it’ll have Mac OS X and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on it. That’s going to be an exciting day when I get the parts to assemble.
Indeed! Everyone knows that Apple invented the movies, the photos, the videos, ect. Also invented touch on Mac…..ops not quite yet, but soon will invent it.
Invented? Not quite. Did they make it easy to organize and share such media? Yes. The entire industry (Mac/Windows) invented it together, at least that’s what I like to believe.
Sure, but this is not what Apple fanboys want to believe ;)
You really don’t know what you’re talking about. Stop while you’re still ahead.
What I tried to say is that nicely done features should receive credit regardless if they are coming from Windows, Mac or Linux…
…That’s what I meant when I said the entire industry.
My comments are regarding the post of Jon Biddell, not of yours.
Even so… his points aren’t even points. They’re senseless statements without any facts to back them up.

Come on, people. You don’t REALLY think that Microsoft would willingly use an Apple computer. Do ya?? The fact is that Microsoft had NOTHING to do with that video graphic behind Ballmer; that type of thing is handled by the Today Show, itself! Now, either the producer was ignorant to the fact that they used a stock photo of an Apple laptop (highly doubtful), or it was an intentional jab by some production peon that they figured would go unnoticed.
