Popular online DVD and Blu-ray Disc rental service Netflix is currently unavailable for online access. Its website, www.Netflix.com claimed to be temporarily unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. They sincerely apologize for the inconvenience it brought to its millions of American patrons in the U.S. leaving only a contact number: 866-579-7120.
The social media site, Mashable have confirmed that the Netflix outage started as of 9:30et/6:30 pt. There were no official reports – other than what was written on its website – what caused the sudden outage nor when will it go back online. The note added that during this maintenance period users may be able to instantly watch movies on an intermittent basis. So we guess, the website could really encountered technical errors which caused “partial” disability of its services.
The company was founded in 1997 and has since served million of U.S. subscribers and shipped more than 2 billion DVD disc across the United States. Aside from disc rentals Netflix also offers online streaming to its American subscribers.
Update
After 5 hours of outage, Netflix is finally up and running again.
Previous messages claimed that the site was undergoing a regular site maintenance. Well, apparently it was more than that. Company Director for corporate communication Steve Swasey confirmed that it wasn’t any site maintenance but he couldn’t disclosed the details either.

Even during the outage, Netflix continued to ship DVD to its users/subscribers. Although, due to the recent problem, Netflix’s 7 million subscribers may experience delays on their movie streaming. Steve Swasey clarified that ” customers needn’t worry about their stored movie picks. None of their information will be lost”. (source: CNET news)
