Rumors about Apple planning to release its new Smart HDTV set might be true. Although we have yet to receive confirmation that the new Apple Television will be installed with voice-activated Siri feature, a few bits of interesting details went out recently.

Reportedly, the Cupertino-based manufacturer might be turning to Sharp, previously Samsung, to supply display panels for its next-gen iDevices including iPhone 5, iPad 3 and the iTV. Apple has yet to confirm these information but what caught our eye was the mysterious iTV touted as the future smart TV unit from Apple. No specific details were mentioned regarding its innards but it was thought that Sharp could be working on a modified TFT LCD panel to fit the device.
In addition, it was mentioned that Apple might be working on something “revolutionary”, more specifically something that will leave mainstream TV manufacturers “6 to 12 months behind”. If that’s true then it’s possible that new technology and features will be seen on the iTV, and more likely we’re seeing the full integration of Siri and other things that will provide a full TV experience to its loyal patrons.
With that said, the release date for iTV is still undisclosed but if the previous reports hold water then we might see the first batch unveiled next year or early 2013. Stay tuned.
