New GTA V Screenshots Prove PS4 and Xbox 720 Aren’t Yet Needed

Posted on 14 July 2012 by pinoytutorial

In case you missed the GTA V train yesterday, you should know that Rockstar miraculously revealed two official screenshots for the game. This is after waiting more than eight months when the outfit revealed V’s first trailer.

As expected, hundreds of articles have spawned on the web analyzing the pictures, but the thing that caught our attention are these opinion pieces stating the said game is made for “next-gen” console, in particular, those two ghost devices from Sony and Microsoft.

While we’re not here to debate on which is which, it’s important to gather data first before doing some ‘theorycrafting’. That being said, it’s most certain that GTA V will be revealed during Q4 of 2012 until Q2 2013 basing from Take Two’s Financial Call confirming the company expects their stock to be ‘pushed’ for more than 2 bucks between those period.

GTA V Will Debut on Xbox 360 and PS3

As much as we want to indulge the obsession of the crowd, analyzing those two screenshots into giant proportions. The assumptions about the game debuting on next-gen consoles doesn’t match.

In fact, if you’ll look at the pictures again, and view the first trailer of GTA V in 720p closely (like the photo we’ve taken above); it’s noticeable that both screens matches with one another, giving no credence the quality of the two newer pics are for next-gen consoles.

Also, it’s important to mention that Xbox 720 and PS4 are only expected to arrive by holidays of 2013, at least, making it illogical to see the mogul sandbox game debuting by that time considering it will be released earlier if you’ll check the points we raised above.

Right now, fans are just happy that Rockstar Games can pull out such extensive display of graphics, even some of its elements are hindered by X360 / PS3′s old hardware.

For the latest buzz, let’s see if Rockstar will give another trail of breadcrumb during Gamescom 2012. Fingers crossed!

GTAIV on pc with ENB series looks EXACTLY like that.

Almost all games in E3 were demoed on a pc.

Therfore, yes they are needed casue all you see is pc.

Seriously? First of all, the visuals in the screenshot and the original trailer look good, but aren’t all that spectacular.

Secondly, just because something is capable of being run on a current system doesn’t mean that a new console isn’t needed. You COULD make GTA V on a PS2 but it would clearly be better to put it on PS3/360.

Thirdly, there is no indication that any of the media that Rockstar has put out are console renders. This game will certainly be on current systems but the screenshots and trailer are most likely showing the PC version.

The screen grabs are this gen high spec PC. Not this gen console so don’t expect the same quality. I’m not gonna buy GTAV on PS3 in Sept only to find out it is gimped like GTAIV and RDR was, and then buy it again on PS4 six months later so I can play it in full PC quality. I’m waiting for the secret PS4 version ported from secret the PC version, because I’m sick and tired of the giimped multiplat ports on PS3. It’s getting very old and only suitable for late adopters now who cannot recognise the flaws.

Multiplat gimping includes: texture, detail and shadow pop-in, short draw distance, thinned out grass and trees, dreaded game breaking screen tear, low res textures, pixilated shadows, sluggish frame rate. Thankfuly GTAIV and RDR didn’t tear on PS3 but all the other gimps were present in all their glory. Quality control of ports has really suffered this gen with PS3, so yes we do need PS4 for GTA5 urgently. Rockstar claim they don’t need next gen because they don’t see any limitations on current gen consoles, which is a bit patronising when the sold me limited gimped GTAIV and RDR on PS3. Great games but I paid full price for gimped version. No more.

Sensible comments/suggestions are always appreciated.
