Just a public service announcement for everyone, one should know Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) update is now available on Nexus S thanks to resourceful users who have found this post on Big G’s Google+ account affirming the latest Android update should become available on the second-gen Google Phone.
Naturally, the post is now deleted but that didn’t stop the community on getting the file and re-uploading it on third-party websites. Just so you know, this update will only work for Nexus S devices that support GSM / UMTS which means, Sprint users should wait a little longer.
If you really can’t wait for the official OTA update, you can download the package here. Of course, eventhough this one came from Google engineers, the fact that it’s not yet made publicly available by the mountainview company means, this one is still put under the “unofficial” category; likewise, install this at your own risk tag still applies.
Interestingly, some users have already run it and claim it’s 100% working on their Nexus S (T-Mobile) after installing it the usual way: save the file on SD, boot the device into recovery, and install the update from the SD card. This tells me the official over-the-air update is about to arrive very soon.
