Nintendo 3DS Official Specs and Release Date

Posted on 16 June 2010 by pinoytutorial

Everything about the E3 yesterday was tad too exciting, I mean Microsoft had just shot us with two of their aces – The Kinect and Xbox 360 Slim. But today, is a different flavor. Hopefully, Nintendo can give us an ultimate-nerdgasmic experience with its Nintendo 3ds announcement. So let’s start!

Form-Factor

As you can see it’s still the foldable DS, you love. Although, the size is only 3.5 inch. Perhaps, an enthusiast might be disappointed with this, to think that the DSi XL has a generous size of 4.2 inch.  In my opinion, I think it would be more pleasurable to play something on 3d with a larger screen, wouldn’t it?

The lower part of the console also has a new slider analog button, making you feel that you have more control with your game. Which is more like the PSP analog stick — Although this one moves in a more subtle way.

3DS Screen

I’m sure some of you might be wondering how the heck did Nintendo manage to make something 3D, without the user ever needing to wear 3D glasses? Actually, we cover this one before, and the explanation is about a (Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda technique) ability to track the eyes of the user, thus producing a 3d effect.

Although, early testers aren’t that amazed with the 3D experience they had with the new console. In fact, you need to at least use it for a couple of minutes before your eyes to get used with it.

Also, if you’re just peeking with your friend’s 3DS, you can’t see any 3D effect at all. I guess we just need to wait for more reviews on this one.

3D Camera

Likewise, the 3D Camera is the one used to make that 3D effect. And you can adjust it with a slider button at the side of the console which controls the depth of the view. Also there’s a gyro sensor, motion sensor and a slidepad that will allow a 360-degree analog input (for better gaming experience)

Release Date and Pricing

Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t disclosed anything about its price or release date. But they said, that expect it to have the ‘biggest launch support ever’. Also they are planning for it to have WiFi capability so you can play along with your friends online. Sounds really good but obviously, we need to see some more proof here.

Furthermore, the new console will be available in Red, Blue and Black as well.

A lot of New Games!

Well, if you’re a bit turned off with the former part of this post, then this may perk your senses up.  (via engadget)

Ah yes! Nothing beats a good presentation than to end it with a parade of semi voluptous women — holding a 3DS connected to their belt.

The Nintendo 3ds announcement today was geat, but not that bombastic as the dynamic duo release of Microsoft yesterday. I mean, if you’re expecting something like a mind-blowing experience with the 3ds console, then perhaps you might be dismayed (a bit) Also, there were no ice-breaker updates for Wii. Only demos for the old WiiMote and some games.

I guess we just need to keep faith with Nintendo, that they will augment some of the 3ds’s features before the official launch. Perhaps, a tweak on that 3D screen? To emphasize more of its ‘3d effect’ ? . I don’t know, but if this will be it, then I must say, gamers won’t be satisfied that much.

I can’t wait for this!!! It’s unfortunate I just shelled out the money for a DS XL not even a month ago, but that’s alright. Hopefully, there will be a good deal of support from developers using this technology.

Own all 3 consoles, not ventured into hand held since the GBA, this looks fantastic, and am dismayed to hear you are the only website not impressed by the graphical advances for the 3ds and the quality of the 3d, and more dismayed to hear that you though that microsoft had a good e3???? Natal (or whatever name they come up with) looks poor at best with huge delays evident even on their pre-recorded trailers, and the only other remotely interesting piece of news, a slimmer 360 that should have come out years ago, and the fact it makes less noise, thats about time too as no other console comes close to the noise of the 360!

Unfortunately this year is showing Nintendo and Sony pulling away again, and there doesn’t seem to be anything microsoft can do about it!

As a huge Ninetendo fan I am very disappointed. The titles are awesome but Nintendo is trying to scam consumers with this, 3d my butt. The effect they are trying to imploy does NOT give you true 3d. This will just be another overpriced product that will promise things it cannot “really” give you. It’s a DS. FAIL.

Perhaps it’s a scam for you, but for people like me who knew nintendo well enough not to buy a DS Lite (OMG ITS MORE SHINY NOW I MUST BUY), a DSi (OMG CAMERA MUST BUY) or a XL (OMG ITS BIGGER MUST BUY), upgrading from a DS Phat to a 3DS is perfectly reasonable. It’s not a scam in any way to pay 200$ to replace a SIX YEAR OLD HANDHELD. If you were stupid enough to spend 170$ on one of the more recent versions, then I could see how you might view it as a scam. Besides, how is offering quasi-3D without the use of stupid glasses a scam? Would you call it a scam if it was perfected 3D but with the use of glasses? I don’t know about you, but I’m buying a 3DS for games like Paper Mario and Mario Kart. Not because they’re 3D, because they’re great series that rarely dissapoint.

If you want anymore evidence of how the 3D effect works look at the resolution of the screen. 3DS’s screen is 800×240, but as we can see by all the images of 3DS games so far each frame is rendered at 400×240. This is because the screen has to render double the number of horizontal lines (two independant scenes of different depth per frame) in order to send half of them to the left eye and half to the right eye.

I will buy one the day it comes out but i hope its not a price over $250 then its another overpriced product that i will have to wait until it drops price.

Quote: “there were no ice-breaker updates for Wii. Only demos for the old WiiMote and some games.”

Seriously? Those games are some of the most expected of them all! Heck, people have been waiting for Skyward Sword to be revield since 2008! Maybe even late 2007! Those updates WERE ice-breakers.

Summery: Nintendo is awesome and Microsoft had NOTHING that could top this.
P.S.: When is Microsoft gona’ give up and work on a NEW console? How old is the X-Box 360? Enough to kick the bucket once sales drop a couple of thousands.

I don’t care if the 3d effects fail, I just want to play Kid Icarus: Uprising. Why is it called Kid Icarus if his name is Pit?
