Alexey Roslyakov and the rest of NITDroid has done their magic once again, this time making the popular Nokia N9 gobble a mouthful of Ice Cream Sandwich.

No, you’re not hallucinating and yes, it’s legitimate: the image clearly depicts a Nokia N9 donning an Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Although the project is still being closely monitored and in its early stages of development, the team behind the exploit of putting Android on a Nokia N900 has made significant progress and even hurdling a framebuffer driver/HAL obstacle and with this dodge, it allowed the Ice Cream Sandwich to be displayed on Nokia’s smartphone.

Moving forward, a dual boot solution is also brewing in the kitchen: when it’s all fine looking, it will enable MeeGo and the Ice Cream Sandwich to work simultaneously on the N9. In doing so, users of a juiced up Nokia N9 will be getting the best of both worlds: MeeGo lacks in third party applications, while the ICS 4.0 does not. With both working hand in hand on the N9, it’s safe to say that the possibilities are endless. Currently, navigating the volume toggle up loads the Android rather than the MeeGo.
The Nokia N9 was, in full terms, anticipated and released last year, although Nokia shifted their attention to Windows Phone and the partnership it instigated with Microsoft even if it reaped tons of positive feedbacks and reviews and even gained the attention of MeeGo itself. OS development has already been turned over to Tizen, while Nokia reiterated that they will user their own work on MeeGo into next generation devices.
