Due to boredom or perhaps an unwritten challenge, hackers just can’t resist the temptation of porting Android on other platforms. Today, the Nokia N900 takes center stage as one hacker attempts to port the delectable Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) using NITDroid.

A guy under the nickname “Drunkdebugger” had shared a video showing a pre-pre-alpha Android ICS version running on N900. Not much can be seen on the clip aside from showing the dash, using the unlock screen successfully and attempting to show some of its interface. Check out the video below and see it for yourself.
As you can see, the “pre-pre-alpha” ICS on N900 is obviously an incomplete project but probably gave a glimmer of hope to programmers who are contemplating on doing the same. As mentioned, this latest attempt to port ICS into N900 utilized NITDroid which concentrates on porting the platform on Nokia Internet tablets, particularly N900 and N8x0. There are 3 main devs who back this project but other programmers and enthusiasts can contribute as well.
It’s been a while since we saw NITDroid in action on the N900. If you could remember the same guy, Drunkdebugger, shared a video of N900 successfully running Android Froyo showing both incoming and outgoing calls as well as a relatively complete Android 2.3.1 (Gingerbread) chugging on the handset. All we can say is that the Maemo-powered phone has certainly come a long way. What’s next? We need to wait and see.
