Here are the IF’s so listen carefully: If you think Droid creations surfacing our world is too “menacing”. The Android mobile OS is too complicated for you to understand, DrodDoes ads makes you want to hide inside your closet, perhaps you thought the design of the Motorola Droid was more of a big “sliding calculator” Or If you have been a Hater of Verizon ever since there’s a map for that ADS began.
Then: We supposed the Nokia N900 might have a chance to tap that vigor taken away from your inner mobile sanctuary. Behold! The latest Nokia communicator-model are now being shipped as we speak. As usual people from Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America soon will always be the first to savor this gadget for about 750 Dollars. What happened to Asia? I supposed you need to contact José-Luis Martinez -Vice President for Nseries and let him answer this question: “What do you mean when you said N900 will be shipped “worldwide” without ASIA being included?”. Here’s the statement.
“The Nokia N900 has generated a lot of interest since its public launch in August, which has been reflected in the device preorders. What’s exciting is the Maemo software, which takes its cues from the desktop computer and offers a full browsing experience like no other handset. We believe the Nokia N900 will be a very compelling device for people who are passionate about technology.”
The Nokia N900 brings the power of computer to mobile devices. It’s a high performance mobile computer with advanced Maemo 5 software on Linux. Explore Nokia N900 features like multitasking on a live Dashboard, wide screen video capture, 3,5“ WVGA touch display (800 x 480 pixels), QWERTY keyboard and personalisable panorama desktop. The Nokia N900 also features 1 GB of application memory and up to 48GB of storage. Maemo browser is powered by Mozilla Technology and includes Adobe Flash 9.4 and full AJAX support. Wi-Fi and 3.5G connectivity provides fast access to Internet. Take high quality photos and wide screen videos using 5Mpix camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Tag photos and browse them using the tag cloud, and see where images were taken with the automatic geotagging. Merge your phone book, Skype contacts and other contacts into an all-in-one address book. And naturally, N900 has a phone application for voice calls.
Sounds like another average-joe smartphone? Maybe, but I thought it is good to share you some of its “difference” between the iPhone kind.
For starters, it uses, Maemo 5 – a customized Debian distribution – to be the operating system. According to wiki: Maemo is mostly based on open source code, and has been developed by Maemo Devices within Nokia in collaboration. Maemo is based on Debian GNU/Linux (open-source)
At the core lies ARM Cortex-A8 600 MHz processor, supports a good application-memory up to 1GB of application memory (256 MB RAM, 768 MB virtual memory), a fat storage capacity (32GB internal + 16GB external via micro SD), A little wider screen-resolution (800 × 480 pixel resolution) though the size of the display is still the same with iPhone (3.5 inch), a not so bad 5MP camera packed with the usual Carl Zeiss optics, Tessar Lens plus a 3x digi-zoom. Video can accept MPEG-4, Xvid, WMV, H.263 on a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen) conflated with a 840×480 video-recording lineament humbled by 25 fps (not enough to make it HD-ready). Dimensions 110.9×59.8×18 (19.55 at thickest part) mm Weight: 181g approx. With no google apps pre-installed as usual – Ovi Maps will be used to replace Google Maps? A sliding FULL-QWERTY keyboard (tactile and on-screen), Quad Band (Hooray! for Asians) Maemo Browser powered by Mozilla (full-screen enabled browsing) plus a native Adobe Flash™ 9.4 support. Some Caveats
- Will this phone have a contract?
- Facebook, Twitter apps where art thou?
- C’mon, please give us more Applications to choose from – Will the users have the ability to install other applications?
- Make the Battery-life last longer when we are on flight-mode.
- How sturdy is your QWERTY keyboard?
Here’s the official preview of N900 from Mikko Korpelainen (Semior Product Manager, N900 team) to at least give you some answers about the look and feel of the new gadget.
Here’s the promotional Video: Nokia N900 – The Journey Starts Here. (Turn the volume a li’l high to understand the conversation)
Look at the 2:00 minute mark – Kind of disturbing don’t you think? I wonder why are the majority of smartphone ads today are hyped on ominous-induced effects with transformer-like setups. Is this the new trend? C’mon guys, its not like on 2010 we will be having Droid Robots living on our homes already.

I ordered one. I have wifi almost everywhere that I go and so can get a low cost plan without data. I’ll pay $510 at Amazon which is only $200 more than a 32GB iphone. I can make that difference in 6 months or less of not paying the iphone tax on AT&T.
iPhone doesn’t even stand close to N900!
This gadget it AWESOME!
…this is the the most perfect gadget available now! Long Live The Open Source!!
