Remember all those would-be “iPad-killers” reported on 2010 that ended up as vaporwares? Well, Notion Ink tablet was sadly one of them. And while the whole production of the once promising device came across with several issues, delays and a half-baked platform, the company addresses these faults with solutions. And today, they’re giving the latest offering, introducing Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandiwch) to the slate.
For fans who haven’t yet given up, this is the latest version that was first unearthed last month. The update includes features such as WiFi / Bluetooth support, GPS and efficiency in overall hardware performance. Other goodies include mounting of SD card which is not possible before, all capacitive buttons are now working, audio, HDMI-out (can only stream video without sound for now). That being said, those who have tried the new update confirmed it’s still choked with several bugs like the tablet’s inability to wake-up from sleep mode unless you do some readjustment on its WiFi settings, non-working rotating camera, no 3G and, its USB as a medium used for storage are still plugged out from the hardware. Despite of the half-full / half-empty situation, Notion Ink is still optimistic, and the group behind it even teased something about a new hardware device inkling for the tablet’s successor.

I guess everyone deserves second chances. Question is, does that apply to the ever-competitive tech world we’re living in?
