O2, UK’s leading mobile service provider, announced that it will be doing its first 4G LTE network trial allowing us to take a sneak peek of the power and speed of the network’s fastest mobile broadband.

The said trial will be conducted at UK’s leading venues and establishments that will most likely include the areas of Westminster, Soho, South Bank, King’s Cross, Hyde Park and Canary Wharf. Over 25 4G sites will be placed within London and the trial will last for about nine months. The new LTE network aims to provide residents with blazing fast internet connection – comparable to fiber-optic connectivity – that can be used for streaming music, movies, gaming, business and others.
1000 chosen UK residents will have a taste of the ultra-fast broadband connectivity after receiving specially made Samsung B3730 dongles from the network. Through these devices, lucky trialists would have the chance to experience 4G speeds which can go as fast as 100 Mbps – imagine downloading 500 MB data in just a minute compare to 5 minutes when using 3G!
The data gathered from the said 4G LTE trial will be used for the development and enhancement of O2’s upcoming 4G network that is said to be launched by 2012. O2 hopes to open more opportunities for UK’s next-generation of mobile services. The trial in London is on-going and will end until June of next year.
